DROGUI RICARDO (QUERIDO RICARDO)

Ricardo la Serna was a Peruvian architect, friend of Tomek Lehnert. They had attended the same university in Gdansk, Poland. Since Tomek spoke Spanish fluently they became great friends. Both had met lama Ole years before and Ricardo had returned to Lima.

By the end of 1989 Ricardo received a letter from Tomek saying that together with Lama Ole and Hannah, they had started a World Tour. They were planning to visit South America. The plan was to take a bus in Colombia, go through Ecuador and then go by bus all the way to Lima. Ricardo phoned back immediately saying that he would be very happy to have them. Tomek also said that Lama Ole wanted to talk about Buddhism, and asked Ricardo to gather a group of friends and neighbours when they arrived.

Finally the day came middle of January and Ricardo borrowed his dad’s van and went to the bus terminal to pick them up. He greeted Ole, Hannah, Tomek and Pedro and several other guys. They were happy to see each other and to have arrived safely. They had arrived to Caracas on January 13^th and had travelled by bus through Colombia and Quito from the 26^th to the 28^th. The trip had proved dangerous in Colombia, because the FARC guerrilla had stopped the bus and they had mean feelings towards the “gringos” mistaking them for Americans. Had it not been for the protection of Mahakala there would be no story to tell. Ole brought a straw hat he had worn in Colombia during the trip and left it in Ricardo’s house as a gift.

Ricardo lives in the neighbourhood of Santa Cruz in Lima, a place where there are a lot of nice restaurants (La Mar street) and auto repair shops. Ricardo’s friends and neighbours were mostly hippies. Ricardo organized a lecture by Lama Ole in his house after which followed a memorable party. After visiting Cuzco they left with the promise to return the following year.

Ricardo La Serna es un arquitecto peruano, amigo de Tomek Lehnert. Ellos asistieron a la misma universidad en Gdansk, Polonia. Como Tomek hablaba buen español, se hicieron grandes amigos. Ambos habían conocido a lama Ole Nydahl años antes y Ricardo había regresado a Lima.

A fines de 1989, Ricardo recibió una carta de Tomek, diciendo que habían empezado una tour mundial con lama Ole y su esposa Hannah; y planeaban visitar Sudamérica. El plan consistía en tomar un bus en Colombia, atravesar Ecuador y después tomar un bus hasta Lima. Ricardo le telefoneó inmediatamente diciendo que estaría muy feliz de hospedarlos. Tomek también dijo que lama Ole deseaba hablar de Budismo, y le pidió a Ricardo reunir en su casa a un grupo de amigos y vecinos cuando ellos arribaran.

Llegó finalmente el día a mediados de enero, y Ricardo se prestó la camioneta de su papá y fue al terminal de buses a recogerlos. Saludó a Ole, Hannah, Tomek, Pedro y algunos otros compañeros de viaje. Estaban felices de reencontrarse y de haber llegado sanos y salvos. Ellos habían llegado a Caracas el 13 de enero, y viajaron de Colombia a Quito del 26 al 28. El viaje había resultado peligroso en Colombia porque la guerrilla de la FARC había parado el bus y ellos tenían malos sentimientos hacia los “gringos” confundiéndolos con Norteamericanos. Si no hubiera sido por la protección de Mahakala no hubiera habido una historia para contar. Lama Ole trajo un sombrero de paja que había usado en Colombia durante el viaje y lo dejó en casa de Ricardo como un regalo.

Ricardo vive en el barrio de Santa Cruz en Miraflores,( Lima) un lugar donde hay muchos buenos restaurantes (calle La Mar) y talleres de reparación de autos. Sus amigos y vecinos eran en su mayoría hippies. Ricardo organizó una charla con lama Ole en su casa, a lo que siguió una fiesta memorable. Después de visitar el Cuzco los visitantes se fueron con la promesa de regresar el año siguiente.
